Our journey so far continued...Malaysia (west coast)

February 2011

11th – Arrival in Langkawi. Hired motorbike and explored the beautiful duty-free island and popped in for a cup of tea at the Royal Langkawi Yacht club. Found a mobile phone and relocated it with its owner. Problem was, it was on the Four Seasons private beach, from which we were promptly removed. Great. So much for karma. How the hell can anyone own a beach anyway?!

14th – Ferry to Penang. Again hired motorbike to explore the island. Big and busy for an island, we hit beaches (obviously), temples and parks and visited Golden Sands Resort Helen had been to when she was younger. Sneaked in to said resort pool for a swim cos that’s what bums do.

17th – Bus to Cameron Highlands. A place famous for…tea. Now, anybody who knows me will know that I despise the substance that is tea. However, a trip to ‘BOH’ tea plantation was one of the most enjoyable trips so far for me. Beautiful rolling hills and valleys of bright green tea bushes, combined with an exploratory tour of the tea factory and of the tea-making process, forced my interest in the stuff. I still hate tea though. A beautiful place that we thoroughly enjoyed and recommend.

19th – Bus to Kuala Lumpur. Our second visit to Kuala Lumpur in order to catch a flight to Borneo. Went to the same guesthouse to stay with our favourite surly tranny who, together with the unkempt décor, makes the atmosphere more seedy motel than pleasant hotel. Last time Nick was ill so it was a chance to do it properly. Got kicked out of the train station because the King was coming. We re-visited Little India’s night market, scene of the infamous 'Chicken Carcass', and took yet more (and better) photos of the Petronas Twin Towers.

22nd Flight to Borneo to see the Orangutans!
